DIVISION RULES & REQUIREMENTS
General Information & Registration: All entries for men and womens LQS events must be made through ASP Australasia on their official website. All other events must be entered by downloading the entry form and sending with a cheque (or payment by direct credit) to the entry address. Entries for multiple divisions will be excepted. Pro competitors entering in the LQS events can compete in the Retro and the Stand Up Paddle Surfing divisions. Amateur surfers may also compete in the Retro and the Stand Up Paddle Surfing divisions. No competitors competing in the LQS Events can compete in any other amateur division. We will have an official notice board next to the registration tent at the contest site. The daily schedule of events and progression sheets for all divisions will be posted there. All official information for competitors will also be there, so read it each day to see what’s going down. Daily schedules and heat draws will also be available online on this website. First heats will enter the water promptly at 8am. All times are NSW DST so be aware if you are travelling from Qld. Please be at the Beach Marshall Desk, next to the judges’ podium, minimum ten minutes before the start of your heat to collect your contest jersey. Put it on in the presence of the Marshall, then at the direction of the announcer, you can enter the water [usually with five minutes to go]. Keep your jersey on until you come back to the Marshall. This is essential as photos are taken at all times. On the paddle out, please keep well clear of the competitors in the current heat. Note that the surfboard specifications are the same for all longboard divisions including all juniors. No specifications exist for SUP surfing boards at this time. Pro Divisions: Arena: The contest arena will be clearly marked by 2 flags. Surfing either side of the flags will not be judged. Competitors in other heats are to stay clear of the contest arena at all times or will risk being disqualified from the contest.
Results
JUDGING CRITERIA Surfers must perform to the ASP Judging Key Concepts to maximize their scoring potential.
Judges analyze the following major concepts when scoring waves: Commitment and Degree of Difficulty - Combination of Traditional and Modern Manoeuvres - Innovative and Progressive Manoeuvres - Combination of Major Manoeuvres - Variety of Manoeuvres - Speed, Power and Flow
Judges will utilize a 75-25% ratio being that surfers will only ever get a maximum of 75% (7.5pts) of the scale for surfing only one aspect of Modern or Traditional, up to an additional 25% (2.5pts) can be added when the two aspects are combined. Incomplete maneuvers will not be rewarded.
It is important to note that the emphasis on certain concepts is contingent upon the location and the conditions on the day, as well as changes of conditions during the day.
Scale Utilized: 0.0 – 1.9 = Poor, 2.0 – 2.9 = Fair, 4.0 – 5.9 = Average, 6.0 – 7.9 = Good, 8.0 – 10.0 = Excellent
