Bic Challenge Rainbow Bay The concept of the Bic Challenge was conceived in July of 2000 when ex-world surfing champion, Nat Young and Bic Sport introduced the first ever One-Design surfing contest at the Biarritz Surf Festival as a display event. The Bic Challenge surf contest series is unique in that every competitor surfs on one of two possible surfboard shapes right throughout the event. By equalizing the equipment, only the intrinsic surfing ability of the athlete is considered. In the spirit of fairness, the surfers may choose between two Bic Sport Surfboards - either the 9’ Classic or the 10’ Noserider - so that a 95kg surfer and a 50kg surfer can compete in the same heat and not have any disadvantages.

About BIC Surfboards Surfers all over the world have had the chance to experience surfing through Bic Surfboards for more than 10 years. Since our introduction in 1992 Bic Surf has developed a full range of surfboards with everyone in mind, from the first-timer to the seasoned pro. As the range continues to grow our overall brand philosophy remains the same. Good quality affordable products, designed for a wide ranging audience. Each of our boards starts out as a prototype from one of several shapers. We use our shapers years of experience to create a board that we know will ride the way it is designed to. Sometimes the testing and critique process takes months before the right shape is found. However, we consider this time is well spent and absolutely critical to ensure a shape that does exactly what it is designed to do.
