ROBERT AUGUST AND JOSH CONSTABLE TO HEADLINE THE MALFUNCTION BOTH IN AND OUT OF THE SURF.

 

Spectators and fellow contestants alike are going to be in for a treat during this year’s Malfunction Surf Festival. Robert August has lost none of the style that made him famous in the 1964 surf movie “Endless Sumer”. Robert headlines an all star Over 60’s division of competitors that will also feature Australia’s oldest competitive surfer 78 yr old Barry ‘Magoo’ McGuigan, early Indo explorer Rusty Miller and Rip Curl co-founder Doug ‘Claw’ Warbrick. 

 

Robert and ASP World Longboard Champion Josh Constable also headline a buffet dinner as after dinner speakers at Twin Towns RSL on Friday 11th May along with Queensland comedian of the year Steve Allison and music by Max Judo. Tickets are limited and can be purchased by phoning 1300 762545.

 

Other out of the surf activities include a Surf Art, Photographic and Memorabilia Exhibition at Greenmount Resort from 8th – 13th May and feature the works of Mal Leckie, Harry the Hat, Rob Oberman, Lisa O’Brien, Marcus Thorne, Mal Sutherland and Ed Sawden plus collectables from Kevin Barr, Carl Tanner and Darryl von Weirdo.

 

On Wednesday evening May 9th vintage movie footage of Captain Goodvibes will be shown during a movie night at Greenmount Resort where the Paul Francis movie “Beyond the Lineup” will be shown. Five years in the making , with surfing by Neil Purchase Jnr, Beau and Nat Young among others “Beyond the Lineup”  is  a  genuine  look  into  the  world  of  surfing. Several leading surf identities have offered their hair in a Cancer Council ‘Shave for Cancer’ fundraiser at Rainbow Bay SLSC on the Thursday evening.

 

Tommy Taylor and Chris de Aboitiz two of the worlds leading exponents of Stand Up Paddle Surfing will be conducting a coaching clinic on the Saturday morning at Jack Evans Boat Harbour.

 

The Golden Breed Surf Vehicle Rally will also be on display at Jack Evans Boat Harbour in the old Border Caravan Park on Saturday. There will be an opportunity for spectators to cast a vote for what they feel is the best Surf Vehicle on display.
