Von Weirdos
Malfunction Auction 2008 Overview
This is the
first year Von Weirdos and the Malfunction have joined forces to
present a vintage and collectables surf auction at Casuarina! There's
going to be lots of goodies on offer to suit all tastes, from the
serious surf collector through to someone setting up their new dream
beach shack who may want some interesting original surf related items
to hang on the walls.
And we're not
just talking 60's longboards, as there will also be 70's shortboards,
vintage skateboards, framed surf records, surf magazines, and other
ephemera such as framed surf posters and handbills from the 60's and
70's, many signed by surfing legends, some of whom will be in
attendance at the event.
Some of the
hot items already consigned to the auction include a hollow plywood
surfboard from the 1950's period along with a plywood paddle board
from the same era, several big name 60's foam and fibreglass "mals"
including a circa 1966 McDonagh 9'4" rider, and a 1967 Keyo 8'6"
stringerless, from the time when the first early "shortboards"
appeared!
Other items
of interest include a 1960's timber deck skateboard with it's original
clay wheels, and a 1970's fibreglass Bahne brand skateboard in top
condition. Framed surf movie posters include The Innermost Limits of
Pure Fun signed and numbered by legendary surfer and film maker George
Greenough. And a very rare surf record from the 1970's by Captain
Goodvibes, signed by the artist otherwise known as Tony Edwards and
beautifully framed. Another example of art crossing over with the
surfing scene.
