It is expected that the meeting place to decide on a suitable surfing venue will be the Lions Park next to the Cudgen Headlands SLSC in Marine Parade Kingscliff. The first heats are expected to begin competition at 8am sharp. You will need to complete your registration formalities at the registration tent in the park before you compete. Please ensure that you give yourself plenty of time to complete these formalities.
The running order for the surfing component of the Festival has now been set with the Golden Breed Retro divisions, Open Retro, Under 18 Retro and Old Mal being run on Wednesday 23rd April beginning at 8am. Thursday will begin with the Honolua Stand Up Paddle followed by 9ft Amateurs, ANZ Kingscliff Over 40’s, Dukes Longboards Over 50’s and the Robert August Over 60’s. Friday sees the Surftech Pro mens and womens divisions followed by the Amateur Women, the Aboods Crane Trucks Under 18 boys and the Sea Master Fishing Charters/Aussie Couch Under 18 Girls. Saturday will be mainly semis and Sunday finals.
When you have been eliminated from the contest you can pick up a spot prize from the registration tent.
We have put together a social package to keep you entertained out of the water beginning with a Golf Day at Ocean Shores on Tuesday 22nd. Here’s your chance to play in a 3 Person Ambrose along side Wingnut Weaver and Josh Constable followed by a BBQ lunch and presentation. Tuesday evening see the official opening of the Domain Casuarina Beach Resort Art Exhibition at the Conference Centre, Barclay Drive, Casuarina. The exhibition will be open to the general public from Wednesday the 23rd to Friday 25th.
There will be Happy Hour at the Cudgen Headlands SLSC after the contest has wrapped each afternoon. The 25th Malfunction Reunion get-together will be at the Cudgen Headlands SLSC on Wednesday evening beginning at 7pm. As well as catching up with friends both old and new there will be video footage and photos from previous Malfunctions.
Thursday evening sees us at the Salt Bar at Salt where Max Judo fronted by legendary surfer Lucas Proudfoot will play. Entry is free and there is a Coopers promotion with the winner taking home a Robert August Model Surftech.
Friday night will be another huge night beginning with the launch of Nat Young's new book 'The Complete History of Surfing from Water to Snow' which is open to all at the Sand Bar at Barclay Drive Casuarina starting at 5pm.
Then immediately following Nat's book launch is the Domain Casuarina Beach Resort Luau Dinner. Tickets are $55 per person and can be purchased from the Casuarina Office or by phoning 02)66749999 or 0414569208.
The Luau dinner will be followed by Von Weirdos Surf Memorabilia Auction.
Saturday afternoon sees the Liars Bar in action in the Kingscliff Beach Hotel in the beer garden from 5.30pm. There will be a Robert August retro cruiser pushy to be won by the best story teller/joke teller/liar. Afterwards there will be a DJ to dance to.
