Island Style Promotions is proud to announce the inaugural Kingscliff Surf Film Festival as part of the Hyundai Malfunction Surf Festival.
The Kingscliff Surf Film Festival is a three day event celebrating surf
films with screenings of independent short and feature films, cult
classics, and world premieres from established and emerging surf
filmmakers. Audiences can expect a packed program filled with film,
art, and music slated for the March 25 -27, 2010 event. Thursday: Accidental Icon by Brian Gillogy 68mins Narrated by Jorja Fox (“CSI”) and produced by Brian L. Gillogly and Master Communication, the project explores the largely untold story of the real “Gidget,” Kathy Kohner Zuckerman, and how her account of surfing Malibu in the mid-50’s became the basis for a best-selling novel by her father Frederick Kohner. A half century later, “Gidget” is celebrated as an enduring Hollywood movie/TV franchise and a slice of Americana, with considerable impact on popular culture and the sport of surfing.
Aloha Uruguaii Director: Juan Miguel Bonner (PG) 22mins This short film screens for the 2nd time outside of Uruguay and is a documentary about two surf legends from the 1970s in Uruguay. The two legends remember the old times and talk about Uruguayan surf culture, which so clearly eposes global surf culture as whole, the connection it forms between cultures and generations around the globe. This is a story which sends out a message of respect, joy and sharing with Mother nature. Surf Machine by Courtney Potter and Peter Matthews 10mins Meet Tweek a surf stocked grommet and Culmsey, the legendary (occasional cranky) surf guru. Join them on their adventures as they set out to discover the fabled barrels of the surf machine. Part 1
Friday: The Life & Times of Alby Falzon by Fil Baker (PG) 44mins In the early 1970s, Alby Falzon was a young surfer, photographer and magazine publisher who decided that he wanted "to make a really beautiful film about surfing". Scraping together just enough money for petrol and a few rolls of 16mm film, Alby began periodically driving up the north coast of New South Wales with a couple of surfing buddies and ended up creating one the classic surf movies of all time - Morning of the Earth. A new documentary by FiL Baker, The Life and Films of Alby Falzon, explores the story behind the making of Morning of the Earth and the dozens of other films Alby made all over the world. This 44 minute autobiographical documentary is driven by an eclectic mix of contemporary and often ethereal music, playing over four decades of priceless archival footage and photographs.
Toms Creation Plantation Director: Cyrus Sutton (PG) Tom’s Creation Plantation is a surf movie about making and riding alaia surfboards. The movie takes us to Queensland, Australia, where renowned alaia shaper Tom Wegener demonstrates the fine details in building the ancient (and environmentally sound) surfboard. Then we get to see the fruits of his labor in action as the local rippers ride the skinny finless creations.
Bullyani Land Snatch by Courtney Potter and Peter Matthews 10mins Meet Tweek a surf stocked grommet and Culmsey, the legendary (occasional cranky) surf guru. Join them on their adventures as they set out to save their hometown (Warra Bay) from the obnoxious developer, Bob Bullyani. Part 2
Saturday:
Live Wire by Shane Gillard
50mins
Live Wire the Guy Ormerod story...

Dear and Yonder by Tiffany Campbell and Andria Lessler Dear and Yonder features a dynamic cast of ladies, some of whom are bathed in the limelight while others have only existed in quiet pockets until now. Each of their stories is unique, but a spirit of adventure and love they have for the ocean connects them.
Fixing a Ding by Courtney Potter and Peter Matthews 5mins Meet Tweek a surf stocked grommet and Culmsey, the legendary (occasional cranky) surf guru.
